Nurturing Dilemmas in the Classroom

In my dream, I was working at a school with infants. I got there early and I ran into my coworker Max soon after I started preparing a coffee for myself. There was a child who came in early was about 9months in age. This child was crying I asked them if they wanted chocolate milk to calm them down. Everyone kept telling me their first meal was suppose to be formula. Milk was in the afternoon. I said “this child should be eating more solid foods by now than formula.” I made them the small bottle of chocolate milk and started rocking them to sleep. A 19 year old version of Leighla and a friend she was with came through crying telling me their first meal got in trouble for me feeding this child chocolate milk. That I was in trouble and they were having a meeting about me right now. I walked to the head office with this calm sleeping child in my arms as I opened the door I could hear a parent yelling about me saying “she is unprofessional and doesn’t follow any of the rules. We want teachers here to do what they are told” I walk in to the room in a calm stronghold manner stating “sir pardon my interruption but I would like to put in my resignation effective immediately after today. I’ve been working with children since I was six years old I am now 30. I listen to the child’s needs and ensure they are being met but if this seems unprofessional or inappropriate then I think it’s best I leave this establishment and go somewhere else where I can be my full self.”

Dreams are often reflections of our subconscious, revealing our thoughts, emotions, and feelings in symbolic ways. In your dream, various elements depict your relationships with authority, childhood experiences, personal beliefs, and a search for validation in your work.

Setting and Context: School with Infants: The school, especially one that involves infants, symbolizes the nurturing aspect of your personality. It reflects your role as a caregiver and educator, highlighting your desire to support and tend to the needs of others. The context of working with infants suggests that you may be reflecting on your own childhood or the innocence and vulnerability of life in general. This setting could also indicate that you are at a transitional phase in your life, where you are learning or teaching significant lessons, either to yourself or to others.

Early Arrival and Making Coffee: Arriving early and preparing coffee could signify your effort to start your day positively, signaling a desire for energy and readiness to take on your responsibilities. Coffee often symbolizes the need for awakening or alertness—perhaps you’re looking for clarity or inspiration before entering a situation that feels daunting or complex.

The Crying Child: The crying infant represents an unmet need or a feeling of distress. Your instinct to offer chocolate milk instead of formula might point to a deeper part of your personality that values intuition and responsiveness over strict rules. This part of you may feel that nurturing should be informed by the unique needs of each child rather than adhering strictly to guidelines.

Conflict Over Feeding Practices: The voices surrounding you, emphasizing that the first meal should be formula, illustrates an inner conflict between conventional expectations and your independent thinking. This scenario could symbolize the pressure you feel from external norms or authority figures and the frustration that arises when you don’t align with these standards. It may represent a struggle with how you view authority or compliance—perhaps you feel that rigid guidelines often neglect individual needs and circumstances.

Encounter with Leighla and the Friends’ Reaction: The appearance of a younger version of Leighla, alongside her friend, brings attention to your past and how it influences your present. Their distress regarding your actions signifies how you may worry about being judged by peers or those from your past, especially in professional or nurturing capacities. It reflects a fear of disappointing those you care about while you seek to assert your methods of care, symbolizing the tension between following your instincts and conforming to expectations.

Walking into the Head Office: Your walk to the head office, holding the sleeping child, suggests that you carry the weight of the situation with a sense of calm and responsibility. This determination to advocate for yourself emphasizes a desire to be respected and valued in your role. Your stronghold manner indicates confidence in your beliefs about childcare, suggesting that you are ready to defend your choices assertively.

The Confrontation and Resignation: The confrontation you face highlights a profound sense of clarity and self-advocacy. By stating your resignation, you demonstrate a desire for freedom from an environment that does not honor your professional integrity or personal values. This reflects an awakening to your worth and the understanding that you deserve an environment that allows you to be your authentic self without fear of judgment. It suggests a turning point where you realize the need to seek spaces that align better with your values and approach to caregiving.

Overall Interpretation: This dream encapsulates themes of self-assertion, the conflict between personal beliefs and societal expectations, and the importance of individualized care. It indicates that you are navigating a complex emotional landscape regarding how you view yourself in your role and how you wish to connect with others—particularly vulnerable individuals like children. This dream nudges you toward reflecting on how to find a balance between being true to yourself and managing the responsibilities and expectations placed upon you by others.
